Works on paper hold a central place in the practices of contemporary artists. In this two-person exhibition, Erik Olson and Winnie Truong demonstrate the expressive potential of printmaking and drawing techniques.

Olson’s new series of mono-prints reflect the vibrant color and figurative subject matter of his paintings. Adapting elements of traditional printmaking, these works merge the serial etching process with unique hand-drawn elements. Drawing is the preliminary form of Truong’s artistic practice. Using colored pencil on paper, her works maximize the linear quality of her chosen medium. The ambiguous figurative forms of her imagery are shaped through deliberate, repetitive mark-making.

Winnie Truong graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design (2010). She has received numerous grants and awards, and her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Among others, Truong’s work was included in a travelling group exhibition, Material Girls, that was on view at Contemporary Calgary in 2016. For more information, visit Truong’s artist page HERE.

Erik Olson earned a Bachelor’s degree from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (2007) and completed subsequent painting studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2014/15). His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions across Canada and internationally in the United States and Europe. For more information, visit Olson’s artist page HERE.
